Marc Jacobs

(NEW YORK) Marc Jacobs felt a bit like falling down the rabbit hole. Everything was topsy-turvy. After a two hour delay that was well worth the wait, the show itself was conducted backwards with the designer taking his bow first and the looks unraveling in reverse order. The models sported surrealist accents like toy airplanes in their hair, and many of the pieces appeared to still be under construction. Some of the shoes seemed too small while others had the heel coming out from the front of the foot. It was an ingenious and thought-provoking collection that, in typical Marc fashion, stood out from the rest of the Fashion Week pack. Plenty of skin was shown-see-through pants, up-to-here slits, and sheer paneling on sweaters and dresses- yet none of it felt exploitative or lewd. The loose-fitting garments, with the models' beige undergarments peaking through, were sensual and suggestive in a totally original way. With a mere 56 looks, Mr. Jacobs turned our entire notion of sexy on its head with this brilliant collection.
